A Comparison between Guitar and Pipa Where West Meets East in the War Theme

Musical Link Investigation - IBDP

In MLI, I compared two pieces of music from China and Spain expressing a similar theme – battle. I analysed them within their cultural contexts, comparing and contrasting several significant musical links:

• Instrumentation

• Structure

• Tempo

• Dynamics

• Melody

To achieve this, detailed analyses will be done including scores reading bars by bars and music listening for emotion expressed and oscillography researching to get an OVERALL understanding of music. Both pieces of music recur/depicting spectacle of an ancient battlefield full of rushing ahead and violence. Music is very espressivo and con moto.
